National Programme for Development of Knitwear Industry:
The project is to be implemented by Federation of Knitwear, Textile and Allied Industries Associations (FEKTAA) in association with UNIDO through the International Centre for Advancement of Manufacturing Technology (ICAMT) under the overall guidance and supervision of a steering committee established under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner (SSI). The proposed project envisages upgradation of the technological capabilities of knitwear industry to improve its competitive strength and build up institutional capacity to facilitate investment and technology promotion & transfer for manufacturing improved knitwear products in India. The major projects planned under the programme also include setting up of a R&D and design centre which is a long pending demand of the industry.
Proposed Undertaking of Textile Centres Infrastructure
 Development (TCID) Scheme:
Federation of Knitwear, Textile and Allied Industries Associations (FEKTAA) has sought the implementation of "Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme (TCIDS)", a scheme launched by the Central Government for plugging critical infrastructure gaps in traditional textile/apparel clusters to help the units located therein to become globally competitive. The endeavor aims to utilize the central assistance scheme to develop necessary infrastructure and other critical components like Common Effluent Plant, improving water supply and drainage facilities and construction of crèche building for apparel units, construction of roads and establishment of design centres in the identified areas. The project in its first phase will be focused on the Bahadurke Road area in Ludhiana. Under the project strengthening and widening of roads, strengthening of water and drainage facilities is being planned.
Setting Up of Sub Contracting Exchange:
Under the DC SSI scheme of Sub Contracting Exchange for small scale and medium enterprises, Knitwear Club has been sanctioned a Sub Contracting exchange for promoting and betterment of Ludhiana Knitwear Industry . The Subcontracting Exchange will be technical information, promotion and match making center for industrial subcontracting and partnership between main - contractors, suppliers and subcontractors, aiming at the optimal utilization of the manufacturing capacities of the affiliated industries. Its main function will be of facilitation and creation of linkages among segments for mutually win-win relationships. Subcontracting is a form of industrial cooperation, involving supplier relationships between small/medium enterprises and larger businesses. SMEs gain access to larger markets, regular orders, learning opportunities and, in many cases, beneficial pressure to achieve consistent and higher quality standards.
